Le o-dichlorobenzène est utilisé principalement comme intermédiaire pour la production du 3,4 dichloroaniline, qui sert à la fabrication d'herbicides.

Le o-dichlorobenzène a aussi d'autres utilisations, telles que :

  • solvant pour la production du diisocyanate de toluène (TDI) et pour une grande variété de matières organiques
  • insecticide et fumigant 
  • désodorisant
  • agent dégraissant
