Prometon est un herbicide de la catégorie des triazines, non sélectif, appliqué en pré-levée ou en post-levée sur des zones non cultivées (sites industriels, emprises de chemin de fer, sous l'asphalte, autour des bâtiments et les sites de services publics).

Prometon contrôle les mauvaises herbes et graminées à feuilles larges, y compris l'herbe de Johnson, l'herbe des Bermudes, la sétaire, la digitaire sanguine, l'éleusine, la morelle noire, l'amarante, le chiendent, la prêle, l'herbe aquatique, la stellaire moyenne, le silène, la lampourde glouteron et la molène.
