En milieu de travail, le manganèse peut être émis sous formes de poudres, poussières ou de fumées, dans les secteurs tels que :

  • l'exploitation minière des minerais contenant du manganèse (purolusite, rhodocrosite, manganite, et autres)
  • les fonderies, notamment celles de ferromanganèse et la production d'acier, que ce soit lors de la manipulation des matières premières où il peut y avoir émission de poudres et de poussières ou lors de la préparation des alliages où il peut y avoir émission de fumées
  • la métallurgie, lors des opérations d'usinage, de meulage ou de polissage, qui émettent des particules et lors des opérations de soudage ou de coupage qui émettent des fumées de manganèse.
