Dans le passé, l'iodoforme était très utilisé dans le milieu médical comme germicide.

De nos jours, il est utilisé en médecine vétérinaire en tant que désinfectant ou antiseptique. Il peut aussi être utilisé comme composant d'adhésifs ou comme agent de contrôle de polymérisation.
