  • comme intermédiaire dans la fabrication d'inhibiteurs de polymérisation, de produits pharmaceutiques, de parfums, d'insecticides, d'antioxydants, de colorants, d'encres spéciales.

Le catéchol existe naturellement dans certains fruits et légumes comme les oignons et les pommes. Il est aussi présent dans les arbres tels que le pin, le chêne et le saule.
