Le captane est un fongicide protecteur avec une faible phytotoxicité, surtout utilisé pour traiter du feuillage ou des semences. Il se trouve dans plusieurs cultures comme des pommes, des amandes ou des fraises. Il peut être appliqué à des boîtes d'emballages de fruits ou de légumes ou être ajouté à des peintures, des plastiques ou des produits du cuir. Il est parfois aussi ajouté à des savons, des shampoings ou des onguents.
