L'acétate de méthylglycol est principalement utilisé comme solvant industriel. Il solubilise différents produits comme la nitrocellulose, des résines, des cires et des huiles. Il peut aussi être un ingrédient dans des laques, des peintures ou des adhésifs.

Il se trouve dans plusieurs industries, dont l'imprimerie, la manufacture d'électronique et de semi-conducteurs, la peinture, la réparation d'automobiles et le vernissage de meubles.
