Le bromométhane est connu pour son utilisation comme agent de fumigation contre un grand nombre d'organismes nuisibles. Ce produit est utilisé dans les chambres d'ionisation et aussi en synthèse organique comme :

  • solvant pour l'extraction d'huiles végétales
  • agent de méthylation
  • intermédiaire pour la fabrication de produits pharmaceutiques

Auparavant, le bromométhane était utilisé comme réfrigérant ou agent d'extinction d'incendie.
