Commentaires 1

Le méthacrylate d'éthyle contient généralement un inhibiteur de polymérisation. L'éther monométhylique d'hydroquinone à une concentration de 15 à 100 ppm est, à toute fin pratique, le seul qui soit utilisé à cette fin actuellement.

Utilisation et sources d'émission 2

Le méthacrylate d'éthyle est principalement utilisé seul ou avec d'autres acrylates pour la préparation de polymères et de copolymères.

Le méthacrylate d'éthyle est aussi utilisé dans la fabrication de :

  • produits pour les ongles
  • gels pour prise d'emprunte dentaire
  • prothèses dentaires
  • fixatifs à cheveux

Le méthacrylate d'éthyle est employé comme produit de remplacement du méthacrylate de méthyle dans les cosmétiques (produits pour les ongles). Pour cet usage, il n'est pas interdit au Canada comme l'est le méthacrylate de méthyle.

Le méthacrylate d'éthyle peut être un produit de décomposition du polyméthacrylate d'éthyle. D'autres polymères et copolymères peuvent émettre du méthacrylate d'éthyle lorsqu'ils sont chauffés. L'importance du méthacrylate d'éthyle dans les produits de décomposition dépend de plusieurs facteurs dont la proportion de polyméthacrylate d'éthyle, la température de décomposition et la surface du polymère chauffée exposée à l'air.
